Human
services
Human service workers
provide a variety of personal services that include
helping people in the community, counseling those
in crisis, and rendering personal training and
grooming activities. Hairdressers, manicurists
and barbers are examples of certified professions
in this career family, along with funeral attendants,
mental health counselors and training specialists.
Spiritual leaders who organize and lead religion
services and council parishioners are also part
of this group.
Job
outlook
In general, the job outlook for the human services sector is good. Employment for social and human service assistants is expected to be among the fastest growing occupations in the country. In addition, employment for psychologists is expected to grow faster than average because of the increased demand for counseling in schools, hospitals, mental health centers, and an increase in companies offering employee assistance programs. Demand will be highest for psychologists with doctorate degrees. Jobs for hairstylists and other cosmetologists are expected to increase at an average rate.
