SPOTLIGHT ON CTE

I knew since junior high I wanted to work in television. [The television production class at York High School ] really taught me all of the basics I needed at that time…It helped you get an eye for what it means to put a show together.”
— Jesse Loyd,
a freelance producer for MTV Networks in New York City

This career path includes roles as varied as operating a television camera to designing the look and feel of a room. Dancing, acting and performing music are examples of the performing arts, while painting, directing and producing are examples of the visual arts. The communications field encompasses everything from writing news reports to designing Web pages.

Job outlook
Employment for writers and editors is expected to grow at an average rate through 2014, but the field is competitive. The increasing number of online publications is spurring demand for editors and writers, especially those with online experience. Jobs for dancers, choreographers, producers, directors, and actors are expected to increase at an average rate, but competition is fierce and pay is often low for many performing artists. Employment for artists is expected to grow about as fast as average, but competition will be stiff for both salaried and freelance artists.
