Luna Innovations Inc., a Roanoke-based
medical technology company, received approval from the
Food and Drug Administration to sell its EDAC (emboli
detection and classification) Quantifier. The device
will monitor blood of surgical patients, whose hearts
have been temporarily replaced by a external pump,
for air leakage and contaminants that could cause heart
