Maria Herring, government sales manager for the Norfolk Convention and Visitors Bureau, received the Sam Gilmer Supplier of the Year Award from the Society of Government Meeting Professionals for service over time that contributed to the organization’s growth and development, especially at the national level. Robert H. and Clarice Smith donated $5 million to sponsor the big screen theatre at The Newseum, a museum dedicated to the history of news coverage and journalism, which will open in October in Washington , D.C. The theatre will provide a variety of presentation capabilities on its 100-foot-long video wall. Robert H. Smith is chairman of Charles E. A four-member team from the University of Virginia won an inaugural national audit competition sponsored by KPMG International’s Global Services Center and the KPMG Foundation.
