AH&T Insurance, a Leesburg-based insurance agency, was named to Insurance Journal's annual Top 100 Property Casualty Independent Agencies List. The rankings were based on premium volume in 2005. (News release)

Bowman Consulting, an engineering firm headquartered in Chantilly, was named to the Hot Firm 2006 list issued by The Zweig Letter, recognizing the fastest-growing companies in engineering and architecture. (News release)

John DeBell, president and CEO of Burgess and Niple Inc. of Chantilly, received the Distinguished Service Award from the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. A Tech graduate, DeBell has been active in service to engineering education at Virginia Tech, as well as in professional associations at the state and national level. (News release)

Gloria L. Freye, a partner in the law firm McGuireWoods LLP, was named to the Real Estate Circle of Excellence at Virginia Commonwealth University. Members of the circle act as guest lecturers, provide scholarship aid and present the annual Real Estate Trends Conference. (News release)

Stephen R. Jackson, a partner at the law firm of Wilcox & Savage, was elected a fellow of the Foundation of the Federal Bar Association. He also serves as vice president for the Fourth Circuit and on the National Council. (News release)

Michael E. Mares, a partner with the accounting firm Witt Mares, received the 2006 Arthur J. Dixon Memorial Award, the highest honor given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for the area of taxation. Mares is leaving his longtime practice and will focus his efforts on training and education for CPAs. (News release)

Robert S. Miller III, president and CEO of the Virginia Beach engineering firm MSA PC, is president of The National Society of Professional Engineers for the 2006-07 year. A 1967 graduate of Virginia Tech, Miller served as NSPE treasurer from 2002 to 2005. (News release)

The design of the Virginia Beach Convention Center earned the Chicago architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP a Citation of Merit in the Distinguished Building category from the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects. SOM received a total of five awards in the competition, the most of any firm. (News release)

Rich Napier, president and co-founder of Napier Signature Homes of Richmond, is president of the Home Builders Association of Virginia for 2007. From 1983 to 1989 he was president of Napier Realtors ERA, founded by his father, Oscar, in 1958. (News release)
