power industry’s
highest award for its Latin American operations. The
Edison Electric Institute gave AES the Edison Award
for demonstrated improvements in generation and distribution

to serve on its Global Expertise Panel, which consists

was honored by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives

Steven L. Higgs received
the Local Bar Leader of the Year award from the Virginia
State Bar’s
Conference of Local Bar Associations. Higgs is past president
of the Roanoke Bar Association and is chair of the Roanoke

The Virginia Commonwealth University Adcenter received
a $1 million gift from The Interpublic Group, a New York
agency holding company. The donation will help finance
the Adcenter’s new home, to open in December, and
establish an endowment for the center. (Business Wire)
Washington and Lee University received
a $100 million gift from an undisclosed donor, the
largest gift in the school’s history and one
of the largest ever for a liberal arts college. The
donation will be used to establish a scholarship program,
fund two professorships and establish lecture and leadership
