Diffusion Pharmaceuticals LLC,
a Charlottesville-based drug development company, received
a $500,00 grant from the Office of Naval Research to
support preparation to ready a small-molecule drug,
trans sodium crocetinate for human testing. The drug
may have uses in treating hemorrhagic shock in cases
of cardiovascular disease, stroke or respiratory disorders. (News release)
Virginia Tech and Region
2000’s Center
for Advanced Engineering and Research agreed on
a deal to serve employers in the
Lynchburg area with research projects. Work will first
be done in
Blacksburg because of a lack of lab facilities in
Lynchburg but eventually Tech employees will be based
there. Among the first projects to be handled will be
efforts on the behalf of nuclear power companies AREVA and Babcock
and Wilcox. Funding assistance will come from the Virginia
Department of Housing and Community Development. (News
