The second phase of Kent Square — Blackburg’s first new downtown office building in years — is complete. The $3 million Kent Square North offers 21,000 square feet of retail and office space and four residential apartments. It complements the $17 million Kent Square, which opened last year. The larger of the two buildings, Kent Square has 80,000 square feet of retail and office space, 15 apartments and a 380-space public parking garage.

Located at the corner of Main and Washington streets, the Kent Square project is about 65 percent leased, says Bob Pack, a managing partner for Pointe West Management Co., which owns and manages the building. SunTrust Bank, Subway and Ben & Jerry’s are among the tenants. The apartments are attracting professionals, retirees and Virginia Tech students, says Pack.

To ease congested parking downtown, the city of Blacksburg put in $2 million to help pay for the garage. “What we wanted was more retail downtown and some parking to go with it,” Pack says.
