Advance Auto Parts Inc., a Roanoke-based retailer of automotive parts and accessories, acquired Lappen Auto Supply Co.’s auto parts division. The cash deal adds Lappen’s 19 parts stores in the Boston market to Advance’s presence in the Northeast. Lappen retained ownership of its garage equipment division, which serves much of the Northeast. (Press release)

America Online Inc., a Dulles-based Internet service provider, bought Wildseed Ltd., a Kirkland, Wash.-based provider of wireless technologies. AOL also formed a wireless division in the company to speed development of mobile information and content delivery services. (Press release)

Chesapeake Corp., a Richmond-based specialty packaging company, bought Arlington Press of Lake Success, N.Y., for $65 million. Arlington Press is North America’s leading supplier of printed leaflets, pressure-sensitive labels and folding cartons for the pharmaceutical market. (PRNewswire)

PNC Financial Services Group of Pittsburgh has announced plans to acquire Harris Williams & Co., a Richmond-based mergers and acquisition firm. Harris Williams will retain its name. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.  Harris Williams, which has 110 employees, was started in 1991 by H. Hiter Harris III and Chris Williams. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
