Discount airline AirTran Airways has announced plans to begin daily service in June at Richmond International Airport. Initial nonstop flights will be to Atlanta and Philadelphia. Direct flights to Orlando will be added by mid-November. The airport’s efforts to attract a discount airline were detailed in February’s issue.

Allen & Allen, a four-lawyer firm, has merged with LeClair Ryan, the fifth largest law firm in Virginia. Both are based in Richmond. The senior partner of Allen & Allen was Everette G. “Buddy” Allen, who was featured in the Legal Elite section of December’s issue.

Richmond Mayor L. Douglas Wilder has proposed a budget that includes merging agencies and eliminating contributions to the Greater Richmond Partnership and the city’s “Clean and Safe” program. Wilder also wants to use $6 million to hire 30 new police officers. Wilder’s plans for the city were showcased in April’s issue.
