LandAmerica Financial Group Inc., a Richmond-based
provider of real estate transaction services, agreed
to pay $10.3 million into a settlement fund to settle
lawsuits alleging illegal fee practices. The company
admitted no wrongdoing in settling the suits originally
filed against LandAmerica subsidiaries Transnation
Title Insurance Co. and Lawyers Title Insurance Corp. (Richmond

The RoomStore, a furniture
retailer headquartered in Richmond, received permission
from bankruptcy court
to emerge from Chapter 11. The RoomStore was a 65-store
division of Heilig-Myers of Richmond, which filed for
bankruptcy in August 2000. The RoomStore is all that
remains of Heilig-Myers, once the natioin’s largest
