GEO-CENTERS, a scientific research company headquartered in Newton, Mass., announced plans to locate a research facility in Prince William County. The initial investment will create 10-15 jobs for research in biotechnological areas. (04/29/04, Press release)

Windsor Mill, a wood siding manufacturer from Northern California, announced plans to locate a facility in Surry County. The $6 million investment is expected to create 70 jobs over the next 30 months. Virginia competed with Maryland and North Carolina for the project. (04/26/04, Press release)

Basic Sportswear, a whole distributor of fleecewear and underwear products, announced plans to locate a distribution facility in Meckenburg County. The $2.2 million investment will create 40 jobs. Virginia competed with North Carolina for the project. (04/20/04, Press release)

APM Terminals, a global container terminal operator headquartered in the Netherlands, will build a privately developed container terminal on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth. The $450 million investment, the largest ever in Hampton Roads, will create 210 jobs. The project will allow the port to handle the latest and largest cargo ships. (04/19/04, Press release)

HT Motorsports, an auto race team, announced plans to relocate from Harrisburg, N.C., to Henry County. The move will create 75 jobs, and the company will partner with Patrick Henry Community College and Arrington Manufacturing to construct the Virginia Motorsports Technology Center to house the race team, as well as PHCC’s motorsports work force development program. Blue Ridge Wood Products announced plans to open operations for the manufacture of laminated lumber and hardwood plywood in Tazewell County. The $3.6 million investment is expected to create 160 jobs within 30 months. Virginia competed with West Virginia for the investment. (04/15/04, Press release)

Telvista, a Tijuana, Mexico-based provider of financial support services, plans to locate a technical support center in Danville’s Airside Industrial Park.
