Genworth Financial, formerly the Richmond-based insurance and retirement products subsidiary of General Electric, officially went public in a $2.8 billion IPO, the largest in the country thus far. Genworth becomes the eighth Fortune 500 company with headquarters in Richmond. (05/26/2004, Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Microwave Circuits, a Washington, D.C.-based manufacturer of components for communications equipment, announced plans to relocate its headquarters to Lynchburg. The $2.1 million investment is expected to create 200 jobs. (05/19/04, Press release)

Watson Wyatt & Company, a global consulting firm focused on human capital and financial management, has decided to move its corporate headquarters and local consulting operations from Chevy Chase, Md. to Arlington.
