Circuit City, a Richmond-based retailer of electronic goods, announced plans to lay off 60 employees in its human resources department in the spring of 2004. The company plans to outsource some functions to Exult Inc. in Irvine, Calif., and others to India-based firms. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Dan River Inc., a Danville-based textile manufacturer, plans to close a weaving plant in Sevierville, Tenn., and a warehouse in Juliette, Ga. The closings will eliminate 443 jobs in those areas, but as many as 200 jobs will be transferred to the company’s Danville operations. (Danville Register & Bee)

Renfro Corp., a textile firm headquartered in Mount Airy, N.C., plans to close its Pulaski plant with a loss of 315 jobs. The company had previously moved its finishing operations from Pulaski to Mexico, resulting in the loss of 166 jobs. (The Roanoke Times)
