Anteon Corp., a Fairfax-based information technology services company, has acquired Sherikon Inc., a Chantilly-based technology firm. Terms were not disclosed. (Press release, 10/23/00) Dynex Capital, a Richmond-based financial services company, will be acquired by the California Investment Fund in San Diego for $90 million cash. (Business Wire, 11/8/00) Fareed & Co., a Norfolk-based advertising, marketing and public relations agency, acquired Microtel Inns & Suites, a national hotel chain. Terms were not disclosed. (Press release, 11/8/00) Lawrence Transportation, a Roanoke-based moving and storage company, plans to acquire Rusco Window Co., a Salem-based window manufacturer. Terms were not disclosed. (Press release, 11/6/00) Mays & Valentine, a Richmond-based law firm, will merge with Troutman Sanders an Atlanta-based law firm. In Virginia, the merged company will be known as Troutman Sanders Mays & Valentine. In states outside of the Commonwealth, the firm name will be Troutman Sanders. (Richmond Times-Dispatch, 11/1/00) Vacation.com, an Alexandria-based company that partners travel agents with operators of tours and cruises, will be acquired by Madrid, Spain-based Amadeus Global Travel Distribution SA, a provider of worldwide reservations, for $90 million. (The Washington Post, 10/30/00) Deals Dominion Virginia Power, a Richmond-based power company, has a sale agreement with Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Westmoreland Energy Inc., a power company with 30% ownership of three Virginia power projects. Either company can call for sale of the projects, at an agreed price, at any time in 2001. (PR Newswire, 11/30/00) Enterworks Inc., an Ashburn-based e-business software and applications company, has an alliance with Sterling Commerce, a Columbus, Ohio-based provider of e-business software and systems, to provide Enterworks software as part of Sterling Commerces portfolio of e-business systems. Divestitures Orbital Sciences Corp., a Dulles-based manufacturer of low-cost space systems, sold its Fairchild Defense electronics business to a U.S. subsidiary of Smiths Industries, plc, a London-based engineering company, for $100 million. (Press release, 10/30/00) Value America Inc., a Charlottesville-based online retailer, plans to sell its electronic services business to Merisel Inc., an El Segundo, Calif.-based distributor of technology products. Merisel will acquire the divisions assets and employees to launch an Internet business this year. (Business Wire, 10/20/00) BACK TO TOPExpansions America Online, a Dulles-based interactive services company, plans to invest $555 million into the construction of a technology center in Prince William County and construction of two additional buildings at its Loudoun County location. (Press release, 10/23/00) CPFilms, a Henry County-based window film company, plans to invest $35 million into expanding its manufacturing facility, creating 52 jobs.
