The Boar's Head Inn has improved its tennis game. A
recent $7.5 million expansion of the Sports Club at this
Charlottesville resort expanded its nationally recognized
tennis facilities and doubled the number of its indoor
courts from six to 12.
The club now offers resort guests
26 tennis courts: 12 indoor and 14 outdoor clay courts.
Nine of the indoor courts are surfaced with joint-friendly
DecoTurf; a multilayer acrylic surface used in U.S.
Open and World Team Tennis matches. The resort regularly
is listed among Tennis magazine's "Top 50 Tennis
Resorts."
The Sports Club serves as the home court for the University
of Virginia's men's and women's tennis teams. With expanded
seating for up to 1,000 spectators, the facility can
host an NCAA tennis championship.
Besides tennis, the club offers squash courts for both
singles and doubles play. The club has expanded its fitness
area by approximately 40 percent, with the new space
housing additional cardiovascular and strength equipment
and group exercise-class facilities.
The expansion also includes improvements to outdoor
aquatics facilities with the addition of approximately
5,000 square feet of pool deck space.
