Fredrericksburg
Fredericksburg – timeless
Centrally located along the Interstate 95 corridor between
Richmond and Washington, D.C., Fredericksburg offers
a unique venue for visitors. It exudes small-town charm,
with a healthy blend of cosmopolitan life. The visitor
centers in the Fredericksburg area have used the new
brand “Fredericksburg. Timeless” to emphasize
this point. The city includes many chef-owned restaurants,
a wide range of art galleries and specialty shops and
a well-preserved historic downtown. The combination
of amenities offer more than just a prime meeting venue,
but also access to rich history, outdoor adventure and
various shopping centers.
Many of the city’s attractions focus on its history.
Guests can visit the Civil War Life Museum for a glimpse
of the hardships of the average soldier during the war,
Ellwood in Locust Grove to see an 18th century building
used for Union headquarters during the 1864 Battle of
the Wilderness, and travel to Falmouth for George Washington’s
Ferry Farm, the place where the first president grew
up. The long-awaited U.S. National Slavery Museum is
scheduled to open next year, tracing the history of
slavery in America. The Fredericksburg region’s
location also gives visitors a chance for outdoor activities
on the Rappahannock River and at Lake Anna State Park.
Fredericksburg offers free meeting planning for conference
goers.

Apparently, conference planners were hungry for a convention
center in the Fredericksburg area. Since the Fredericksburg
Expo and Conference Center opened in January, dates
to hold conventions and trade shows have been filling
quickly. Expo officials believe it’s in large
part due to its access to the hub of federal, state
and local government agencies. The expo and conference
center offers 95,000 square feet for meetings and events,
including an 80,000 square-foot exhibition hall that
can fit 400 exhibit booths and be divided into two,
a 10,000-square-foot ballroom that can be divided into
six rooms, and 5,000 square feet of meeting rooms. The
center can hold a banquet for up to 3,500 people. It
offers full service for conferences, including on-site
catering, electronics and decorations. The center is
on the Celebrate Virginia campus, a large-scale retail
and tourism site nicknamed “North America’s
Largest Retail Resort.” The project, on the Rappahannock
River, includes hotels, retail, the U.S. National Slavery
Museum, restaurants and a golf course.
The center is off the Route 3 Exit from Interstate
95. Strategically located between Washington, D.C.,
and Richmond, the expo center also gives visitors access
to stores at Central Park and Fredericksburg’s
historic downtown.
Room Report
The Fredericksburg area offers more than 3,600 rooms,
with another 430 rooms to be added by June 2007.
